What is Kajabi?
Kajabi is one of the O.G of all-in-one platforms to create and sell online courses. They’ve been around since 2010 and have a large users base of about 25,000 people to date (according to their website).
They’re possibly THE most well-known platform in the industry and have a very dedicated team and a lot of raving fans in their large community.
Features: What Can You Do With Kajabi?
As an all-in-one, Kajabi has pretty much all the bells and whistles of an online business platform.
Notably, It has one of the most advanced features when it comes to customizing the course experience and design. Offering different themes designed for a range of needs and style of digital course (publisher, self-paced, dripped, membership,...)
With access to code (Growth plan) allowing for even further flexibility with the layout and functionality of your course - if you're the kind of person that likes to mess with code!
In November 2020, Kajabi introduced Cambria, which is the latest version of their page builder.
You can choose from a variety of elements and use preset templates. All of these are responsive and allow just enough customization for you to build a page you like but keep some degree of layout structure for these to be conversion optimized and easy to use.
Kajabi has recently fixed the main shortcoming of blocks which was that you couldn't duplicate them... you can now!
But you still wont' be able to "save" them for another page or move them from section to section.
The new Cambria update also brought a big improvement on the other pages of your course hosting site: login page, library, blog,...
These now have a lot of flexibility to customize the user's journey to your liking!
Kajabi has also made great progress with their email system which can handle small and large lists. You’ll be able to create almost all of the automations you need to market your courses, even if, keep in mind a full CRM tool (eg. Active Campaign) will have more advanced automations and capabilities…
The email system is not as advanced as a fully fledged CRM like Active Campaign, but pretty close! It definitely will do the job for 95% of course creators using Kajabi.
We appreciate its block builder which makes it very intuitive to design your emails.
Kajabi, like most email marketing software has 3 different tools: Broadcast, Sequences, Automations.
Broadcasts are the one-off emails you'll send on a specific date and time, used for timely campaigns or newsletter.
Sequences are the autoresponders you'll set to start based on chosen triggers. For example the purchase of a product, the submission of an optin form or even more advanced events like a progress in a course.
And Automations are the If X Then X rules that glue everything together in the back-end to manage and engage your list and students.
If you send regular emails and are wanting to optimize your delivery as much as possible, Kajabi also has a custom domain sender option.
Checkout & Affiliate system
The last core feature to review here is the cart and attached affiliate system Kajabi offers.
In order to create a checkout you will need to create an Offer. In contrast with Products (the actual course content) these are unlimited!
This is where you'll set all of the offer details: pricing, start date, automations,...
There is a wide flexibility with pricing options for your course in Kajabi: one-off, subscription, payment plan, free and paid trial,...
From there, you will also be able to edit your checkout, which is specific to this particular Offer.
The checkout design is limited... but already very conversion optimized!
The main limitation to note with Kajabi's checkout, is the fact that you can only have 1 pricing option per checkout...
So if you have a membership with both monthly and yearly pricing options, you'll need to create 2 Offers and checkout, and link out to both from the sales page.
The last notable feature to expand on may be the Community product.
This is a fairly new feature to allow the creation of a private group for members of a course or membership to exchange, which is widely used by course creators.
It’s currently fairly limited and will only allow for a main feed and topical feeds. You’ll be able to post images, videos and text.
Although promising, this feature is still not ideal to replace the commonly used Facebook group for this aspect of your online course.
It's usually a great tool for more of a Q&A forum than an engaging group with interaction.
With the Cambria update, Kajabi has allows for a Member's directory!
Which is a really cool way to create a space for your members to network and connect 1 on 1
A last note on the lives and webinar you may want to host. Kajabi doesn’t allow for hosting natively and you will have to use a 3rd party tool such as Streamyard or Zoom for this, that you can then embed inside Kajabi.
That being said, you can re-create an evergreen webinar funnel with the tools inside (this is a still just a workaround of course).
In an effort to provide an option for its user to get the kind of high-end support and premium experience that's hard to create at scale, Kajabi introduced Kajabi Access
We did a full review of everything you need to know about this new offer, but here is the gist of it:
- Everything that can be counted, doubled! That means pipelines, email subscribers, Products slots, sites,...
- 6 1x1 sessions with a Kajabi Customer Success Manager
- Code editor access on any plan (usually only on the highest plan)
- Early access to new releases
User Experience: Is Kajabi Easy To Use?
This is one of the biggest strengths of Kajabi.
The company has an acute sense of design in everything it does. Even out of the box, the student’s experience is pristine and streamlined. The minimalist look of both the back-end and front-end makes spending time on the platform a very enjoyable experience.
Because of it’s relatively high degree of flexibility, you can also influence the customer flow and journey to your liking.
The platform is also easy to use and they have an extensive library and documentation to help you as well as education to get you started with both the platform and marketing your course (Kajabi University).
Not much more to say apart that there currently no other platform that compares!
Affordability: How Much Is Kajabi?
The Basic plan cost $149 per month ($119 billed annually)
Even as an all-in-one, Kajabi is on the higher end of the cost scale. Which may indeed not be a fit for all course creators, especially if they don’t intend to use all the bells and whistles of the platform.
That being said, if you’re starting from scratch and planning on using it for everything, the investment is well worth it and you probably won’t outgrow the platform anytime.
How is the Support & Community for Kajabi?
Another big asset of the company and joining its ecosystem is the community and support.
Kajabi as a relatively responsive support you can use the live chat to talk to. And these tend to be very friendly and to actually know the platform… which is not always industry standards!
As mentioned before, they also have extensive documentation on everything you could want to achieve with the platform and all the questions you have, which gets updated very often.
And for anything else or more subjective advice, you can meet the Kajabi Community, which they call Kajabi Heroes.
With a large Facebook group of over 21,000 people, this is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable community in the course creators industry.
Kajabi clearly places their clients at the core of their business and their priority, rewarding them with personal gift and rewards as everyone celebrates their revenue milestones
In short, there are very few places with such a passionate community in the course creation industry and you definitely won’t feel alone!
Our Overall Rate: 9/10
Community & Support Rating:
It's no doubt we have a very enthusiastic outlook on Kajabi throughout this review.
The platform is one of the pioneers of all-in-one and has proven to be a long lasting solutions for course creators to have everything in one place to market their digital products.
Kajabi does have some limitation but has everything you need to be a very successful course creator, as many of its many member can attest!
